New Mitsubishi Pajero Unveiled, Won't Reach Israel Due to Regulations

Mitsubishi has revealed the fifth generation of its iconic Pajero SUV, built on the platform of the sixth-generation Triton pickup truck. The new model features a new transmission and a suspension system developed specifically for it. Despite its global appeal, the Pajero will not be available in Israel at this time due to a lack of suitable regulatory compliance.

The Pajero, first introduced in 1982, has undergone four generations, with the last one produced until early 2021. The latest iteration, after more than five years of anticipation, is based on the Triton, not the Nissan Patrol as some had speculated. Mitsubishi executives have hinted at a potential "Pajero series," suggesting a smaller SUV might follow.

Produced in Thailand, the new Pajero will initially launch there, followed by Japan, Australia, and other Asian, Latin American, and Middle Eastern markets next year. However, its absence of European or American certification means it won't be coming to Israel soon. The previous generation was sold in 170 countries, while the new one is expected to reach only 100.

The exterior design is modern, with a upright front, LED lighting, and a rectangular profile. It has grown in size compared to its predecessor, measuring 4.92 meters in length, 1.92 meters in width, and 1.91 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.87 meters. It boasts 23 cm of ground clearance and improved approach and departure angles.

The interior combines ruggedness with luxury, featuring a dashboard with metal finishes and a large, integrated 14.3-inch display. It offers enhanced noise insulation, third-row climate control, a 12-speaker Yamaha sound system, leather upholstery, and comprehensive safety features including 8 airbags, adaptive cruise control, and cross-traffic alert.

Power comes from a 2.4-liter diesel engine (estimated 204 hp and 48.9 kgm of torque, based on the Triton), paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle retains a ladder frame chassis and features a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. It is equipped with Mitsubishi's S-AWC and SS4-II 4WD systems, offering four 4x4 modes and seven driving modes for various terrains.
