Israel Fires Interceptors at Suspected Drone from Lebanon; IDF Cites False Alarm

Early Wednesday morning, air raid sirens wailed in communities in the Galilee Finger region of northern Israel, near the Lebanese border, due to a suspected drone infiltration. Interceptors were launched toward the "suspicious target" shortly before 4:30 AM in Kibbutz Kfar Yuval, Kibbutz Gesher, and Kibbutz Dafna. The IDF later updated that an initial investigation indicated the interceptors were likely fired at a false target.

No injuries were reported, and the incident is possibly a false alarm. Security officials for the Upper Galilee Regional Council informed residents that the IDF is investigating the event and that daily routines, including school transportation and classes, would continue as normal. This marks the first such alert on the northern border in nearly three months.

The initial alarm sounded at 4:24 AM in Kfar Yuval, followed by alerts in Maayan Baruch, Gesher, and Dafna. About fifteen minutes later, the Home Front Command declared the incident over, allowing residents to leave protected areas. The IDF stated that the alerts were triggered by the interception attempts.

This incident follows a similar event on May 30th, when an alert for a UAV infiltration was activated in Rosh HaNikra. At that time, the IDF identified a "suspicious aerial target" crossing from Lebanon but lost contact with it. Meanwhile, Lebanon reported overnight strikes in the areas of Ali Taher, Kfar Rouman, and Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa.

Earlier, the IDF struck structures controlling areas in Nabatiyeh, southern Lebanon, as part of its operations on the Ali Taher ridge. This ridge is believed to be fortified by dozens of Hezbollah operatives. The exact number of operatives trapped underground is unknown, with some reportedly escaping before an IDF siege began approximately ten weeks ago. Media reports suggest between 20 to 40 Hezbollah members and several Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps officers are currently trapped. The presence of Iranians and U.S. pressure to avoid regional escalation may be influencing the IDF's cautious and slow combat approach in the tunnels.
