IDF: Iron Dome Intercepts Likely False Alarm Near Lebanon Border

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Wednesday that air raid sirens activated overnight in the Galilee region were likely triggered by a false alarm. Following an initial investigation, the military concluded that several Iron Dome interceptor missiles were likely fired at a non-existent threat originating from Lebanon.

The alarms sounded around 4:30 AM in several communities in the Upper Galilee, including Kfar Yuval, Ma'ayan Baruch, HaGoshrim, and Dafna. This marks the first such alert in the area in nearly three months, making the incident unusual.

The IDF stated that interceptors were launched toward the perceived target and that the results of these interception attempts are under review. No injuries were reported. About fifteen minutes after the sirens, the Home Front Command declared the incident over, allowing residents to leave protected areas.

IDF clarified that some of the alerts were activated due to the missile defense system's own interception attempts. The current assessment points to a mistaken identification as the cause of the event.
