Beloved Rabbi Dies at 37 After Battle With Illness, Leaving Five Young Orphans

Rabbi Refael Binyamin Shisha, a beloved teacher from Beit Shemesh, has passed away at the age of 37 in the United States after a prolonged and difficult battle with illness. He leaves behind a young widow and five orphaned children.

Rabbi Shisha's life was marked by significant health challenges, beginning at age 12 with a complex liver transplant performed on Yom Kippur in Germany. He recovered and became a devoted teacher of young children in the Toldos Aharon Talmud Torah in Beit Shemesh and a central figure in the Dushinsky Hasidic community. He also developed a close relationship with the Dushinsky Rebbe, with whom he studied.

About a year and a half ago, his health deteriorated, necessitating another liver transplant and complex treatments in New York. Despite his suffering, he maintained a positive demeanor. In February, he celebrated his eldest son's bar mitzvah in the US, a moment of hope that he had once again overcome his medical challenges.

However, as he began his recovery, a virulent infection attacked his weakened body, leading to rapid system failure. He passed away surrounded by family.

The tragic loss has left his family in severe financial and emotional distress, with immense medical debts from his treatment abroad and the loss of their primary breadwinner. An appeal has been launched to support the widow and five young children, the eldest of whom just celebrated his bar mitzvah and the youngest of whom are still awaiting their father's return.
