Beloved Rabbi Raphael Benjamin Shisha Dies at 37 After Battling Illness

A heavy sorrow has fallen upon the Dushinsky Hasidic community and the city of Beit Shemesh with the news of the passing of Rabbi Raphael Benjamin Shisha, who died in the United States at the age of 37. Rabbi Shisha, a central figure in the Dushinsky community in Beit Shemesh and a beloved teacher of young children at the Talmud Torah Toldedot Aharon, succumbed to a serious illness after a prolonged struggle.

Rabbi Shisha's life was marked by significant health challenges. At the age of 12, he underwent a complex liver transplant in Germany on Yom Kippur, during which the Rebbe of Dushinsky, Rabbi Mordechai Dushinsky, ordered prayers for his recovery. He recovered and later became a devoted scholar, even learning with the Rebbe. About a year and a half ago, his health deteriorated again, requiring him to travel to New York for another liver transplant and intensive treatments.

Despite his suffering, he maintained a positive demeanor. He was able to celebrate his eldest son's bar mitzvah in the U.S. shortly before his death, a moment that offered a glimmer of hope. However, as he began his recovery, a virulent infection attacked his weakened body, leading to rapid system failure.

Rabbi Shisha passed away surrounded by his family, leaving behind his wife and five young children.
