Five Israeli Children Orphaned After Losing Both Parents Within Two Years

Five children in Kiryat Ye'arim are in mourning after losing both their parents within a two-and-a-half-year period. The family is currently observing the seven-day mourning period, known as Shiva, at their home in Telz Stone. The youngest child, an 11-year-old, is particularly distraught, having lost his mother to illness less than three years ago and now his father, Rabbi Yaniv Fisher, who passed away at age 50 after a short illness.

During the Shiva, the youngest son expressed the profound pain of his double orphanhood, stating, "Double orphanhood is a pain that cannot even be imagined," a sentiment that moved many mourners to tears. The children have had little experience of a "normal" home life, having witnessed their mother's prolonged illness and struggled with her loss before their father's recent passing.

Mourners have described the difficulty of offering comfort to the children, as any words seem inadequate in the face of such profound loss. The family faces not only emotional devastation but also significant financial and logistical challenges, with no parents left to provide for them, manage the household, or guide them through future milestones.

The timing of the tragedy is particularly poignant, as the children will face their first Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah without either parent. In response to the crisis, a public initiative has begun in the community to support the orphaned children. A special fund has been established to ensure the household can continue to operate and to provide the children with a strong support system during this immense period of grief.
