Ofer Vinter's Party Hits Back at Netanyahu, Citing Principles

A representative for the "Am Israel" party, led by Ofer Vinter, has responded to criticism from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that the party operates on its own principles and not under Netanyahu's direction. "Whoever attacks us knows that we do not work for him," said journalist Netali Shem Tov, a member of the "Am Israel" party, in a radio interview. Shem Tov asserted that "Am Israel" is the only party untainted by the events of October 7th and emphasized that while they are part of the right-wing bloc, with Netanyahu as its leader, a future right-wing government would require new individuals.

Netanyahu had reportedly criticized Vinter's party in a Channel 14 interview the previous day. Shem Tov suggested that Netanyahu's attacks stemmed from the fact that the party has principles and "does not work for him, we work for the people of Israel." She added that the post-October 7th reality necessitates change, and anyone believing things will remain the same is mistaken.

Shem Tov also referenced Vinter's stance on government performance during the war, noting that Vinter has stated he would have resigned if he were prime minister on October 7th, reflecting his sense of responsibility. Despite this, the party supports Netanyahu as the leader of the right-wing camp, rejecting alternatives like Gadi Eisenkot, whom she criticized for previously suggesting the entry of 150,000 Gazans into Israel. She also dismissed the idea that "Am Israel" does not attract new voters, claiming many right-wing individuals feel they finally have a viable option within the bloc, preventing them from crossing to other political camps.
