IDF Soldiers Punished for Refusing Gaza Mission Over Paramedic Presence

Five soldiers from the Givati Brigade, identified as leading a refusal to deploy on a mission in the Gaza Strip, have been sentenced to 10 days in military prison. The refusal stemmed from the presence of a female paramedic assigned to their unit. An additional 11 soldiers involved in the incident received five-day sentences.

The IDF Spokesperson confirmed the disciplinary actions, stating that the soldiers were judged by their battalion commander, with punishments determined by the extent of their involvement. Two of the five soldiers who spearheaded the refusal will also undergo an assessment board before returning to combat duty.

The incident involved soldiers from a yeshiva background who objected to the female paramedic's participation in their operational deployment. The IDF has not provided further details on the specific mission or the exact nature of the soldiers' objections beyond the paramedic's gender.
