IDF Soldiers Jailed for Refusing Medical Evacuation Duty With Female Medic

Three soldiers from the Golani Brigade have been sentenced to 10 days in military prison for refusing to board a medical evacuation vehicle that contained a female paramedic. The soldiers stated they were acting on the orders of their rabbis. Additional soldiers from the same unit are expected to face similar charges and punishments.

The incident has sparked controversy regarding the integration of military orders and the religious restrictions of Orthodox soldiers. According to reports, the refusal was specifically related to boarding the vehicle with the female medic, not to the operational mission itself.

Rabbi Dror Aryeh strongly criticized the decision to imprison the soldiers, calling it "unprecedented audacity" and accusing the Defense Minister of failing to protect "devoted soldiers from progressive madness." He praised the soldiers as "heroes" who would be remembered as the "true victors" in this "bizarre story."

Rabbi Aryeh further argued that the commanders, not the soldiers, should be held accountable, stating they acted against both religious law and military orders. He asserted that military regulations do not compel an Orthodox soldier to perform a task if there is a concern of physical contact with a female soldier.
