Autistic Boy, 8, Critically Injured After Falling Four Stories in Bnei Brak

An 8-year-old boy, who is on the autism spectrum, was critically injured on Sunday after falling from the fourth floor of his residential building in Bnei Brak. The child fell approximately 12 meters (40 feet) to the building's parking lot, sustaining severe head injuries. He was evacuated to Beilinson Hospital unconscious.

Initial investigations indicate that shortly before the fall, the boy asked his mother for permission to go outside and play with friends. His mother denied his request and then moved to an adjacent room to nurse another child. While she was in the other room, the boy attempted to leave the apartment via the balcony. He reportedly climbed towards an opening and fell from the fourth floor.

Contrary to some initial reports, sources familiar with the details clarified that the boy's room was not locked. While his mother did not permit him to leave the apartment, he was not confined to his room. The circumstances surrounding the fall and the events leading up to it are still under investigation.

Paramedics found the boy unconscious with a severe head injury. After providing initial life-saving medical treatment at the scene, he was transported by a mobile intensive care unit to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, where his condition was described as serious.

This incident is part of a broader, dangerous trend. According to data from the Beterem organization, eight children and teenagers have died from falls since the beginning of 2026. Between 2021 and 2025, an additional 20 children died from falls, with one-third of them aged 5 to 9, an age group where a moment of inattention can lead to tragedy.
