Israeli Defense Minister Orders Strong Response to Gaza Balloon and Kite Attacks

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz held a special security briefing on Thursday with Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi and other senior officials to address the ongoing threat of incendiary balloons and kites launched from Gaza into southern Israel. Katz declared that the deadline for tolerance had passed and that any such launches would now be treated as acts of terrorism.

Under new directives, the Israeli military will respond with significant force against the organizers, perpetrators, and infrastructure behind these attacks. This includes targeting launch sites and terror-related facilities within Gaza. Katz emphasized that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are authorized to take all necessary measures, including evacuating Palestinian populations from areas used for these launches, to impose a heavy price on those responsible.

The security establishment made clear that Hamas or any other Gaza factions will not be allowed to resume the previous cycle of kite and balloon terrorism that preceded the October 7 attacks. Israeli warnings have begun to resonate within Gaza, where videos show residents destroying kites and calling for immediate cooperation to prevent further launches, citing concerns over Israeli retaliation.

Additionally, a Gaza-based group called "The Popular Committees in the Displaced Camps" urged residents to prevent children from flying kites and to increase parental supervision amid the heightened security threat. The IDF continues to monitor and respond to these incidents, with recent reports confirming additional kite sightings near the Nahal Oz area.

This escalation reflects Israel's intent to firmly counter any attempts to reignite this form of low-level terrorism from Gaza and protect southern communities from incendiary attacks.
