Israel Considers Expelling British Officials From Gaza Coordination Center Amid Rising Tensions

Israel is contemplating the expulsion of British and possibly other European officials, including Germans and Italians, from the multinational Gaza Coordination Center located in Kiryat Gat. This move comes in response to increasing criticism from these countries regarding Prime Minister Netanyahu's policies in the West Bank, according to the Financial Times. The center operates under U.S. military command in cooperation with the IDF and representatives from about fifty countries and organizations, originally established to monitor ceasefire enforcement. However, efforts to implement the ceasefire have stalled due to ongoing fighting and Hamas's refusal to disarm.

Earlier this week, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced the expulsion of Dutch representatives following their decision to boycott products from Israeli settlements. Spanish officials were also removed earlier this year over perceived anti-Israel bias. Tensions escalated recently after the UK government advocated for a ban on trade in settlement products and opposed the E-1 settlement project, prompting Sa'ar to assert that Britain should not dictate where Jews live in their historic homeland.

There is debate among insiders whether further expulsions require approval from the U.S.-led peace council overseeing Gaza crossings or if Israel has full sovereign authority over who remains on its territory. Meanwhile, an Italian official dismissed the possibility of Europe and Germany being excluded from the center, and Israel emphasized its good relations with these countries.
