Top Rabbi to Recite Names of Donors During Yom Kippur Closing Prayers

Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch, a leading halachic authority, is preparing for the High Holy Days by emphasizing the power of charity to alter divine judgments. He has expanded his network of "Teshuvot VeHanhagot" kollels (Torah study groups for married men), adding over 100 scholars and two new branches since before Tisha B'Av. During Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Sternbuch recited the names of those who supported his kollels during the "Avinu Malkeinu" prayer, a practice he is repeating during the Ten Days of Repentance.

Rabbi Sternbuch stated that supporting Torah scholars, especially those facing persecution, is crucial for a good judgment and a year of salvation. He urged people to contribute to Torah study, asserting that such support "will give us the strength, with God's help, to tear open the heavens." He also highlighted the ancient belief that charity can avert death and bring great abundance, encouraging participation in supporting Torah learners.

To further benefit donors, a special "Mi Sheberach" prayer will be recited for each partner during the concluding "Maftir Yonah" reading on Yom Kippur. Additionally, Rabbi Sternbuch's family will present him with a list of donors' names during the "Neilah" (closing) service, the final moments of the holy day, to pray for their favorable judgment. Due to the large number of congregants, the list will be limited to 200 names. The suggested donation for inclusion is 786 shekels, a number chosen for its association with abundance.
