Rabbi Shternbuch to Name Donors Before Ark on Yom Kippur

Rabbi Mordechai Shternbuch, a prominent rabbinic decisor, is preparing for the High Holy Days by emphasizing the power of charity to alter divine judgments. He has initiated an expansion of his 'Teshuvot v'Hanhagot' network of kollels (post-graduate rabbinical study centers), adding over 100 scholars and two new branches. During Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Shternbuch recited the names of donors before God during prayers, and a list was quickly filled.

As the Ten Days of Repentance commence, Rabbi Shternbuch is again calling for support for Torah scholars, particularly those facing persecution. He stated that supporting Torah study provides the strength to "tear open the heavens." He also highlighted the ancient tradition that charity can avert death and misfortune, bringing great abundance. He personally vouched for the scholars in his network as "great Torah sages."

Two special opportunities for donors have been established. During the Musaf Amidah on Yom Kippur, a special prayer will be recited for each donor. Additionally, Rabbi Shternbuch's family will present him with a list of partners during the closing Ne'ilah service, as the Ark is opened and the final judgment is sealed. This is intended to influence the judgment for the partners at the last moment of the holy day.

To manage the process and avoid overburdening the rabbi, the list is limited to 200 names. The suggested donation for partnership is 786 shekels, corresponding to the Hebrew phrase for "a remedy for great abundance."
