Vishnitz butcher and mohel Dov Daskal dies at 92 in Bnei Brak

Dov Daskal, a longtime Vishnitz Hasidic butcher and mohel, died in Bnei Brak at the age of 92. He was widely known as a God-fearing shochet whose slaughter many leading rabbis and admorim trusted exclusively, and as a mohel who brought tens of thousands of Jewish boys into the covenant of Abraham.

Daskal lived in Bnei Brak’s Vishnitz neighborhood after marrying the daughter of Rabbi Yechiel Michl Friedman. Born to Rabbi Rafael Aryeh Daskal, he became a familiar and revered figure in the community over decades of service. The article says his name was associated with exceptional piety, precision in religious observance, and a prominent role in the Vishnitz world.

Residents recalled the annual scene before Yom Kippur when Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky would come to Daskal’s home on Sderot Vishnitz 5 so that he could slaughter the kapparot chicken. Daskal also served the Vishnitz rebbes, from the author of the Imrei Chaim, through the Yeshuos Moshe, to the current Vishnitz rebbe, including assisting at the rebbe’s tables and serving for many years as the regular Torah reader during Shabbat afternoon mincha.

About a year ago, he suffered the loss of his son-in-law, Rabbi Moshe Kramer. In his final period he was weakened, and the article says he bore his suffering with love. He is survived by a large family of children, sons-in-law, and descendants who continue in the path of Torah and Hasidism, including his sons Rabbi Yechiel Michl Daskal, head of the Vishnitz yeshiva in Borough Park, and Rabbi Rafael Aryeh Daskal, a shochet. Funeral details were still to be announced.
