Major Nighttime Traffic Restrictions Begin at Tel Aviv's Busy Gesher HaShalom Interchange
From August 23, major nighttime traffic restrictions begin at Tel Aviv's Gesher HaShalom interchange due to upgrade works, blocking the ramp to northbound Ayalon Highway for westbound drivers and reducing lanes on the bridge. The Ayalon Highway remains open, with alternative routes advised. Public transport and pedestrian access continue, while escalator replacements at Tel Aviv HaShalom station affect platform access until August 29.

- Ramp to northbound Ayalon Highway from westbound Gesher HaShalom closes nightly from Aug 23-26 and continuously Aug 27-30.
- One lane on Gesher HaShalom bridge reduced for westbound traffic during the works.
- Ayalon Highway remains open in both directions despite ramp closure.
- Drivers advised to use alternative routes via Yigal Alon or Yitzhak Sadeh streets to access Ayalon north.
- Public buses operate normally; pedestrian bridge access remains open with supervision.
- Tel Aviv HaShalom station escalator replacement from Aug 25-29 restricts direct access to Platform 1.
Starting the night of August 23, significant traffic changes will take place at the Gesher HaShalom interchange and nearby Tel Aviv railway station due to extensive upgrade works by Netivei Ayalon, Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, and Israel Railways. These restrictions will continue through August 30, with nightly closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. during the week and a continuous closure from midnight on August 27 until 5 a.m. on August 30.
The main closure affects the ramp descending to northbound Ayalon Highway (Route 20) for drivers coming from the west (central Tel Aviv), which will be completely blocked. Additionally, one lane on the bridge itself will be reduced for westbound traffic. Despite these changes, the Ayalon Highway remains open in both directions, and traffic on the Gesher HaShalom bridge continues as usual except for the lane reduction.
Drivers approaching from the west are advised to bypass the closed section by continuing east on Derech HaShalom and turning left onto Yigal Alon Street toward the Arlozorov Interchange or turning right before the bridge onto Yitzhak Sadeh or HaMasger Streets to reconnect with northbound Ayalon via the La Guardia Interchange. Public buses will operate normally, and pedestrian access across the bridge will remain open and supervised.
At Tel Aviv HaShalom railway station, from 8 p.m. on August 25 until August 29, escalator replacement work will prevent direct access from the northern passenger hall to Platform 1 (northbound trains). Passengers will be directed to alternative routes with signage and staff assistance.
These coordinated infrastructure upgrades aim to improve traffic flow and station facilities in one of Israel's busiest transport hubs.
