Ori Goren, the 17-year-old Israeli midfielder, continues to attract attention at Barcelona following his recent appearance in the Joan Gamper Trophy match. On August 18, Goren came on as a substitute in the second half during Barcelona's 2-1 victory over Al Ahly. Spanish media praised his performance despite playing only 28 minutes, highlighting his quality play and near goal-scoring opportunity. "Mundo Deportivo" rated him 2 out of 3, noting he "made full use of his time on the pitch," while "Sport" gave him an 8 rating, the highest alongside teammate Raphinha, emphasizing his exceptional talent and quick impact in creating scoring chances.
Prior to the match, Goren received significant acclaim in Spanish media, with journalist Jaume Marist describing him as "pure intelligence and abundant quality," comparing his touches to those of legendary Barcelona midfielders Pedri, Iniesta, and Xavi. Marist recommended fans keep an eye on Goren and fellow young midfielder Tonkara, both gaining the trust of coach Xavi Hernandez.
Despite the praise, Barcelona acknowledges Goren is still in the early stages of his career. Given his young age, the club expects his immediate future to be with Barcelona Atlètic, the club's reserve team. However, his continued training and playing time with the first team under German coach Xavi Hernandez provide valuable opportunities to showcase his abilities. "Sport" highlighted that Xavi views these young academy players not just as temporary solutions but enjoys developing them and keeping them close as long as possible.
Goren's promising debut at Camp Nou signals a bright future as he aims to establish himself within Barcelona's senior squad.
