In response to a sharp rise in trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) cases following the October 7 attacks and the Iron Swords war, Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv and the nonprofit organization 'Lemaanchem' have signed an agreement to establish a new early intervention trauma center. The center will provide free professional mental health services to Israeli reservists, security forces, and their families, addressing a growing national mental health crisis.

Since October 7, approximately 26,000 war casualties have been added, with about 65% experiencing psychological distress including PTSD, anxiety, depression, or adjustment difficulties. The new center aims to expand the existing 'Asif' trauma treatment program at Ichilov, offering timely, focused care to both direct victims and their families, who are often overlooked yet significantly affected by trauma.

The initiative seeks to increase treatment accessibility and provide early professional intervention to reduce the risk of chronic PTSD and improve recovery outcomes. The center will operate from 'Lemaanchem' offices and be managed by the Asif center’s clinical team, led by Dr. Roy On and psychologist Racheli Pant. Services will include short-term therapies by clinical psychologists and social workers, with quick triage and referrals for complex cases to Ichilov Hospital for continued care.

Key figures at the signing ceremony included Ichilov CEO Prof. Eli Sprecher, 'Lemaanchem' founder Yossi Arbelich, IDF Mental Health Services commander Col. Dr. Yaakov Rothschild, and other senior health and organizational leaders. Prof. Sprecher emphasized the hospital’s commitment to community outreach and addressing the ripple effects of trauma on families, calling the partnership a vital response to the urgent national need. Arbelich highlighted the life-saving potential of early intervention and the importance of supporting reservists and security personnel who serve the country.

'Lemaanchem' is a nonprofit providing free medical guidance and support to thousands annually, helping patients and families navigate complex medical situations. This collaboration marks a significant step in Israel’s efforts to confront the mental health fallout from recent national security events.
