Reserve Brigadier General Hazi Nechama Joins Gilad Erdan’s Unity Party

The story · English

On August 11, 2026, Reserve Brigadier General Hazi Nechama officially joined the Unity Party led by Gilad Erdan. Nechama, a founding member of the Forum of Reserve Commanders and Fighters and co-author of the "Generals' Plan" to decisively defeat Hamas, announced his intention to promote a military victory strategy alongside legislation mandating national service for all Israeli citizens. Nechama, married with eight children and residing in the West Bank settlement of Eli in Binyamin, served hundreds of reserve days during the recent war. He held key roles including Chief of Staff of the 261st Reserve Brigade at Bahad 1 and commander of the reserve officers’ course. During the war, he was suspended from reserve duty after publicly criticizing the war’s management and lack of decisive victory.

In his permanent service, Nechama served in combat and command positions such as a fighter in the elite Sayeret Matkal unit, commander of Maglan Unit, commander of the Givati Reconnaissance Unit, officers’ course commander, and commander of the Menashe and Alexandroni brigades. About a year ago, he neutralized a terrorist who carried out a vehicular attack near the Al-Hader junction on Road 60.

Gilad Erdan welcomed Nechama’s joining, calling him a "hero of Israel" and a leading advocate for decisive victory, contrasting with the current policy of accommodation. Erdan emphasized that Nechama represents hundreds of thousands of reservists who leave their families and businesses to defend Israel. Nechama stated that the Unity Party embodies the values he has fought for through the Forum of Reserve Commanders and intends to advance in the Knesset elections in about three months. He stressed the need for a right-wing security approach focused on battlefield victory and highlighted the critical goal of passing a law mandating service for all citizens to strengthen the IDF’s ranks. Nechama said this would only be achievable through a broad Zionist government that brings unity to the Israeli people. He expressed gratitude to Erdan for his trust and optimism about their joint success.
