Reserve Colonel Hazi Nechama Joins Gilad Erdan’s Unity Party Ahead of 2026 Elections

Reserve Colonel Hazi Nechama, a founding member of the Forum of Reserve Commanders and Fighters and co-author of the "Champions' Plan" aimed at decisively defeating Hamas, announced his entry into the Unity Party led by Gilad Erdan. Nechama, who was suspended from reserve duty after publicly criticizing the management of the recent war, is now transitioning from security activism to politics ahead of the upcoming Knesset elections.

Nechama has a distinguished military background, having served in elite units such as Sayeret Matkal, Maglan, and Givati, and held command positions including head of the Menashe and Alexandroni brigades. He also played a direct role in neutralizing a terrorist near the Al-Hader junction last year. During the recent conflict, he served hundreds of days in reserve and was critical of the war’s conduct and lack of decisive victory, which led to his suspension.

In joining the Unity Party, Nechama emphasized his commitment to advancing a right-wing security doctrine focused on military decisiveness and instituting a universal conscription law for all Israeli citizens. He stated, "The Unity Party represents the values I have fought for in recent years, including abandoning the current containment strategy in favor of battlefield victory, alongside the critical need for universal service to strengthen the IDF." Gilad Erdan welcomed Nechama, calling him a "hero of Israel" and a leader representing hundreds of thousands of reservists who sacrifice for the country.

Nechama’s move marks a significant shift from his previous public security activism to a formal political role, aiming to influence Israel’s security policy and national service legislation through the Knesset. His entry into Erdan’s party signals a consolidation of voices advocating for a more assertive military approach and broader civic responsibility in defense.
