Former Senior IDF Officer Hazi Nehama Joins Gilad Erdan’s New Political Party Plans

Gilad Erdan, former Israeli Minister of Public Security and Ambassador to the UN and the US, is considering forming a new political party and is exploring the inclusion of retired Colonel Hazi Nehama. Nehama, a prominent voice among reservists critical of Israel’s recent war management, served in senior command roles in the IDF, including commander of the Alexandroni and Menashe Brigades and deputy commander of the Givati Brigade. During the recent Iron Swords war, he served as chief of staff of a brigade fighting in Gaza and publicly criticized the IDF’s operational approach, advocating for a decisive military strategy. Following his remarks, Nehama’s reserve service was suspended and later terminated by military authorities.

Nehama also gained attention for neutralizing a terrorist in a vehicular attack on the Road of Tunnels, where he shot the assailant after the attacker ran at him with a knife. Erdan has not officially announced the party’s formation but is in talks with other political figures, including former Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein, aiming to create a right-wing, nationalist party appealing to voters disillusioned with existing parties. The final party list and announcement timing remain under consideration. Neither Erdan nor Nehama have commented on these developments.
