Israel Advances Housing Development in Sderot with 2,868 New Units Approved

The Israeli Ministry of Construction and Housing has completed the marketing of 2,868 new housing units in Sderot, marking the first phase of a broader development agreement with the city. This phase includes the approval of tenders for two new residential neighborhoods, "The Academy" and "Israel's Revival," as part of a government initiative to expand housing and accommodate residents in the western Negev region following the October 7 attacks.

These neighborhoods will feature access to public transportation, including a train station, educational institutions, open spaces, and community areas. The project is the initial step toward a larger plan to build 5,000 housing units under the city's master development agreement, with additional units expected to be tendered by the end of the year.

To encourage investment, the government will provide developers with a development subsidy of 40,000 shekels per unit, alongside existing tax benefits and grants designated for national priority areas. Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi described the city's growth as a model of resilience, emphasizing the community's spirit driving development efforts to strengthen the Gaza envelope settlements.

Ministry of Construction and Housing CEO Yehuda Morgenstern and Aviyad Friedman, head of the "Revival" administration, highlighted the strong real estate demand reflected in the tenders and the long-term goal of creating a thriving region that attracts new residents beyond merely rebuilding damaged areas.
