Israel Advances Housing Development in Sderot with 2,868 New Apartments Approved

The Israeli Ministry of Construction and Housing has completed the marketing phase for 2,868 new apartments in Sderot, marking the first stage of a broader housing agreement with the city. This milestone includes the approval of tenders for two new residential neighborhoods, "The Academy" and "Israel's Revival," as part of a government initiative to expand housing and accommodate residents in the western Negev region following the October 7 attacks.

These neighborhoods will feature access to public transportation, a train station, educational institutions, open spaces, and community areas. The current project is the initial phase of a plan to build 5,000 housing units under the city's master agreement, with the remaining units expected to be tendered by the end of the year.

To encourage investment, the government will provide developers with a development subsidy of 40,000 shekels per unit, in addition to existing tax benefits and grants available in national priority areas. Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi described the city's growth as a model of resilience, emphasizing the community's spirit driving development to strengthen the Gaza border settlements.

Judah Morgenshtern, CEO of the Ministry of Construction and Housing, and Aviad Friedman, head of the "Revival" administration, noted strong market demand reflecting the city's expansion potential. Friedman highlighted that the long-term goal extends beyond rebuilding damaged areas to creating a region that attracts new residents in the future.
