Israel Approves Major Housing Deal for Sderot Amid Reconstruction Efforts

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi have signed a "roof agreement" worth NIS 4.5 billion (approximately $1.2 billion USD) to construct 7,700 new housing units in the southern city of Sderot. This significant development is part of a broader initiative to rebuild and rehabilitate communities in the western Negev region following the events of October 7th.

The agreement, a collaboration between the Ministry of Construction and Housing, the Ministry of Finance, and the "Tekooma" administration (an agency focused on developing the western Negev), aims to facilitate the development of necessary infrastructure, public institutions, and urban services to support the new neighborhoods.

This initiative follows the successful marketing of nearly 3,000 housing units in two new neighborhoods, "HaAcademia" and "Tkumat Yisrael," located in the city's southwest, which concluded in August. The "roof agreement" is designed to provide the foundation for Sderot's demographic and economic expansion, attracting new families to the area.

Mayor Davidi emphasized that the addition of these new housing units and neighborhoods is crucial for strengthening and developing the city, particularly in light of the damage sustained in the region and the ongoing efforts to bolster its resilience.
