Israel Approves Major Housing Deal for Sderot Amid Reconstruction Efforts

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi have signed a "roof agreement" valued at NIS 4.5 billion to construct 7,700 housing units in the southern city of Sderot. This significant development is part of a broader initiative to rebuild communities in the western Negev region following the events of October 7th.

The agreement, a collaboration between the Ministry of Construction and Housing, the Ministry of Finance, and the "Tekooma" administration, aims to facilitate the development of essential infrastructure, public institutions, and urban services required for the new neighborhoods. This initiative follows the successful marketing of nearly 3,000 housing units in two new neighborhoods, "HaAcademia" and "Tkumat Israel," in the city's southwest during August.

The "roof agreement" is designed to support the city's demographic and economic expansion, attracting new families to the area. Mayor Davidi emphasized that the addition of these housing units and neighborhoods is crucial for strengthening and developing Sderot, particularly in light of the damage sustained in the region and the ongoing efforts to rebuild and expand the community.
