Miriam Bernstein, Wife of Jerusalem Torah Institution Leader, Passes Away at 79

Miriam Bernstein, wife of Rabbi Menachem Shimon Shlomo Aryeh Bernstein, head of the "Chayei Olam" Torah institutions in Jerusalem, passed away at the age of 79 on the Sabbath of Parashat Eikev. Born on the 13th of Shevat 5707 (1947) to Rabbi Baruch Yosef Lederman, a respected elder of the Pinsk-Karlin Hasidic community, she was known for her deep faith, kindness, and exceptional acts of charity throughout her life.

Bernstein was a devoted partner to her husband, supporting his sacred work in Torah education and the success of the "Chayei Olam" institutions. Her home was open to many, and she was a model of honoring parents and communal dedication. In recent years, she endured severe illness with acceptance and silence, passing away peacefully during the Sabbath prayers.

She leaves behind a blessed lineage of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren committed to Torah and Hasidic life. Her son, Rabbi Mordechai Tzvi Bernstein, continues to serve diligently in the same institutions. The funeral took place on Saturday night, Parashat Eikev, and she was buried on Har HaMenuchot in Jerusalem.

Her family, including her husband and children from the Bernstein, Ashenberg, Beck, Fisher, Lederman, and Fried families, are sitting shiva at their home on 10 Zayit Ra'anan Street in the Kiryat Sanz neighborhood of Jerusalem. Shiva visitation hours are from 10:00 to 13:30 and 17:00 to 22:00. May her soul be bound in the bond of life.
