Respected Jerusalem Educator Chava Basya Michaela Kober Dies at 84

Chava Basya Michaela Kober, a revered educator and devout woman, passed away in Jerusalem on Monday at the age of 84 after a period of suffering, which she bore with acceptance. Born in Jerusalem in 1941, she was the daughter of Rabbi Shmuel Kleinerman and a descendant of Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld, the chief rabbi of Jerusalem. For decades, Kober served as a beloved teacher at the Beit Chinuch Bnos Jerusalem school, where she educated generations of students in the ways of tradition and piety.

She was known as a woman of valor who steadfastly supported her late husband, Rabbi Chaim Rafael Kober, a prominent figure in the Makor Baruch neighborhood of Jerusalem, who died three years ago at 85. Friends and family remember her as a God-fearing woman deeply devoted to Torah study and the meticulous observance of commandments. She was also known for her charitable deeds, assisting the poor and welcoming all with a kind face.

The couple endured significant hardship during their lives, most notably the tragic death of their daughter, Mrs. Sokolover, 25 years ago in an accident while returning from Meron. Kober accepted this fate with complete faith and continued to dedicate herself to her family and her students, upholding the traditions of their ancestors.

Her funeral took place on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, attended by family, former students, and admirers. She was laid to rest at the Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem.
