The story · English

A 48-year-old man named Michael Levin from Kiryat Yam stole an ambulance parked and turned off in Kiryat Yam last Wednesday while the driver was inside a house attending to a patient. The ambulance was found abandoned near the city's beach shortly after the theft. Levin was identified by intelligence coordinators from the Zebulon police station who reviewed security footage and recognized him from previous offenses, but he was not located until Thursday evening.

Levin was arrested and spent the night in custody before being brought to Haifa Magistrate's Court on Friday. Police allege that he stole the vehicle, drove it without a license while intoxicated, and took money and property from inside. Levin admitted to driving the ambulance but claimed he moved it because it was obstructing him and other road users. The stolen cash and property have not yet been recovered, and Levin denies involvement in their theft.

His public defender, attorney Naji Amar, requested his release, but Judge Nir Zituni found reasonable suspicion to extend Levin's detention by three days, following a partial acceptance of the police request. Levin is scheduled to appear before a judge again on Sunday unless released earlier by the authorities.
