Israeli Police Arrest Two Young Men for Alleged Extortion Attempt of Contractor in Southern Israel

Israeli police arrested two men in their twenties from Ramla on Tuesday, suspected of attempting to extort protection money from a contractor at a construction site in the Moshav Shetulim in southern Israel. The suspects reportedly tried to threaten the contractor, a resident of Nazareth, by sending intimidating messages through his children after failing to find him at the site. The investigation began following a police report about threats directed at the contractor related to his construction project.

The suspects allegedly arrived at the site in the afternoon to demand money under threat. The Lahav 433 Protection Unit South and Dimona police station quickly located and detained the two suspects, who were transferred for interrogation. In a related operation, the Negev District Unit arrested four family members from Rahat suspected of long-term extortion of factories in the nearby Idan HaNegev industrial zone.

Lahav 433 Commander Superintendent Shahar Levi emphasized the unit's zero tolerance policy towards intimidation and extortion attempts targeting business owners and entrepreneurs. He stated that the police will continue to use all intelligence and operational means to apprehend offenders, prosecute them, and maintain public security. "Anyone attempting to extort protection money or threaten citizens will face determined police action and swift response," Levi said.
