Kollel Fund Revives Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky’s Protective Tradition for Bein Hazmanim

The story · English

The Bein Hazmanim period, traditionally a time of rest and renewal for yeshiva students, begins this year amid heightened concerns among parents. The worries stem from the dual threats of potential arrests targeting yeshiva students and the usual dangers associated with travel and leisure during these weeks. In response, Kollel Kupa Ha'ir is promoting the "Veyishmerecha" fund, established by the late Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, to safeguard Torah students during Bein Hazmanim.

Rabbi Kanievsky originally founded this fund specifically to provide spiritual and physical protection for yeshiva students during this time. He personally wrote a brief letter endorsing contributions to Kupa Ha'ir, stating that donors of "Rosh Yeshiva Shekalim" (210 shekels, or 10 shekels per day of Bein Hazmanim) merit elevated protection throughout the period. This year, with the added risk of government crackdowns, the fund’s importance is emphasized even more.

Donors who contribute 210 shekels will have their names prayed for daily at Rabbi Kanievsky’s holy gravesite in Bnei Brak, with a special emissary visiting after the early morning prayer each day to recite individual prayers for their safety. Additionally, a new expanded donation option has been introduced: contributors giving 60 shekels per day for all 21 days (totaling 1,260 shekels) will receive prayers from prominent rabbis Shteinman and Galai for heightened protection. These donors also receive a "Protection Card," a symbolic amulet from Rabbi Kanievsky’s Arava procession, recommended to be carried during travel.

Kupa Ha'ir stresses that while parents cannot accompany their children everywhere, they can ensure their names are remembered in prayer daily. The fund invites supporters to submit names for prayer and receive the protection card through their website.
