Israeli Election Committee Begins Hiring 100,000 Workers Ahead of Voting Day

The story · English

Starting next week, the Israeli Election Committee will begin recruiting approximately 100,000 workers to staff polling stations for the upcoming election day. This large-scale recruitment effort is prompted by concerns raised by Election Committee Chair Noam Solberg and Shin Bet Chief David Zini about potential threats to election integrity. The recruitment drive will commence on August 3 and includes key roles such as 35,000 polling station secretaries and 14,000 election integrity supervisors.

Workers will be required to start their shifts at 6:30 a.m. and remain until the vote counting is complete. Secretaries will earn between 2,700 and 3,000 shekels per day, while supervisors will receive 2,300 shekels, both subject to an 18% tax. Candidates must be adults with at least 12 years of education and must not have been members of any political party in the three years prior to the election. They will also undergo preliminary training and an interview by the regional election committee.

In addition to these workers, thousands more will be recruited through political parties to serve as their representatives at polling stations. The recruitment aims to ensure the smooth operation and transparency of the election process amid heightened security concerns voiced by President Isaac Herzog and Shin Bet leadership.
