Greek football club Panathinaikos is showing strong interest in acquiring Zambian midfielder Kings Kangwa, currently playing for Israeli champions Hapoel Be'er Sheva. The interest in Kangwa has been growing alongside that of AEK Athens, another Greek club recently linked to the player. According to the Greek sports outlet Gazeta, Panathinaikos has been searching for a central midfielder since the start of the transfer window. They initially pursued Brentford's Mathias Jensen but failed to reach an agreement, prompting them to explore other options, with Kangwa emerging as the leading candidate.
Sources close to both the player and Hapoel Be'er Sheva confirm Panathinaikos' serious interest. Notably, Panathinaikos had conditioned Kangwa's potential transfer on him not playing against Vikingur in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round match last Tuesday. However, Kangwa not only started the game but also scored Hapoel Be'er Sheva's sole goal in that fixture. This development underscores the player's importance to his current club and the complexity of the transfer negotiations.
The transfer window remains open, and Panathinaikos appears committed to securing Kangwa's signature as they seek to strengthen their midfield options for the upcoming season.
