Dalia Mazor, who co-anchored the Israeli news program "Mabat L'Chadashot" on Channel One alongside Chaim Yavin, paid tribute to him in an interview on Kan News Radio on Thursday morning. She described Yavin as "the closest thing to a movie star Israel had for years," praising his charisma, authoritative voice, excellent diction, and unique personal charm that shone on screen. Mazor called him "undoubtedly the central and best" news anchor and said the title "Mr. Television" was rightly his and unlikely to be taken from him.

Mazor highlighted Yavin's restrained and gentlemanly demeanor, noting his natural authority required no effort. She explained that during their years presenting "Mabat," personal opinions were never expressed on air, reflecting the era's broadcasting norms. When asked if Yavin struggled to withhold his views, she said it was ingrained in them not to show personal opinions. Mazor also mentioned that many people express nostalgia for that era of television, not because it was better, but because it was different.

Chaim Yavin was a founding member of Israeli television and presented the first "Mabat" news broadcast in 1968. He remained the main anchor for four decades, also hosting other programs on Channel One, editing news editions and investigative shows, and serving as news department director and Israeli television manager. Yavin passed away and will be buried on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Givat Hashlosha Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Yossefa, three sons, Yonatan, Maiki, and Haggai, and a daughter, Dafna, who died in October 2025.

The article also briefly notes the recent deaths of journalists Amos Arbel at age 80 and Dan Margalit at age 87.
