Iconic Mastigam Chewing Stick Ice Pop Returns to Israeli Freezers After Long Absence

The story · English

After months of absence from store shelves, the legendary Mastigam ice pop is back in production and available in freezers across Israel. The beloved frozen treat, known for its unique chewing stick, disappeared last year, causing disappointment among devoted fans who searched fruitlessly for it in various shops. Rumors circulated that the hiatus was due to a temporary factory closure in Acre amid the war or production issues linked to a Turkish factory amid strained relations. However, Strauss, the manufacturer, has now confirmed the ice pop's return.

A visit to the factory revealed that the iconic chewing stick took years to develop, achieving a perfect balance of flavor and texture that allows it to both hold the ice pop and be enjoyed as a chewy gum. The Mastigam originated in the 1980s as "Psapsim" and evolved into its current form in 1995, with the chewing stick becoming an integral part of the experience.

Today, the factory produces tens of thousands of units daily on a fully robotic production line, ensuring that fans of this nostalgic treat can once again enjoy it. Strauss's announcement brings relief to many who consider Mastigam more than just an ice pop but a cherished childhood memory.
