Several current and former employees of the Israeli Tax Authority were arrested on Monday on suspicion of accepting bribes. The arrests followed a covert investigation led by the National Fraud Investigations Unit (Yahaha) of Lahav 433, in cooperation with investigators from the Central Tax Assessment Investigations Unit. According to police and tax authority statements, the suspects allegedly took bribes in exchange for facilitating false tax refund claims totaling approximately 80 million shekels over several years.

With the investigation moving into the open phase, law enforcement officers raided the homes and offices of the suspects. Some of those detained are expected to be brought before the Ramla Magistrate's Court later in the day to extend their detention. The Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office for Taxation and Economics is overseeing the investigation, and a gag order has been imposed on details of the case.
