AliExpress Introduces VAT Prepayment and Pickup Improvements for Israeli Shoppers

Chinese e-commerce giant AliExpress is implementing significant changes to its shipping and taxation policies for Israeli consumers, including upfront VAT collection on purchases over $75 and enhanced synchronization of local pickup points. Starting immediately, AliExpress will charge VAT at checkout for orders exceeding the Israeli tax exemption threshold of $75, following a model similar to Amazon's. This change eliminates the previous system where VAT was collected by shipping companies upon arrival in Israel, reducing delays at customs.

In addition, AliExpress has upgraded its delivery service by allowing customers to update their preferred pickup address directly in their account settings, improving the accuracy of package routing and reducing the need for long trips to distant collection points. This adjustment aims to enhance convenience and streamline the final delivery stage.

Further improvements include an anticipated reduction in shipping costs beginning in August, coinciding with a "mega sale" event on the platform. Delivery times from China have already shortened to about one to ten days, partly due to AliExpress warehouses in Israel. These developments strengthen AliExpress's position as one of the most popular foreign shopping platforms in Israel, alongside competitors like Temu, SHEIN, Amazon, Next, and iHerb.

The upfront VAT payment simplifies price transparency for Israeli shoppers, allowing them to see the full cost at checkout and facilitating easier price comparisons with local retailers. However, while VAT is prepaid, additional handling or clearance fees charged by private shipping companies in Israel may still apply. Overall, these changes are expected to reduce waiting times, lower final purchase costs, and improve the shopping experience for Israeli consumers on AliExpress.
