Pioneering Israeli Producer Miriam Etzioni Passes Away at 88

N12Center
Translated & summarized from N12 by baba
The story · English

Miriam Etzioni, a trailblazing figure in Israeli stage production and one of the first female producers in the country's entertainment industry, has died at the age of 88. Born in Poland in 1938, she immigrated to Israel as part of the Tehran Children rescue operation. Etzioni served in the Israel Defense Forces as coordinator of the artists' bureau in the entertainment branch before launching her career in cultural production.

After working with leading producers such as Giora Godik and Moshe Wilensky, she founded her own production company and became a key figure in Israeli theater. From 1970, through the Yuval Theater, she produced dozens of stage shows, musicals, and children's performances. Etzioni managed the careers of prominent artists including Hanna Laszlo, Gavri Banai, Nathan Datner, Odia Koren, and many others.

She described her role as a producer not as a creator of content but as a facilitator who brings artistic visions to life by identifying suitable material, creators, and performers. Etzioni remained active in production until her final days, overseeing shows such as "These Are Banai," "Taking Root," and "Datner on the Roof."

Her contributions earned her lifetime achievement awards from ACUM (Israel's composers and authors society), the Israeli Producers and Agents Association, and the Israeli Artists Association. On Israel's recent Independence Day, she was honored as a beloved figure of Tel Aviv. She is survived by her two sons, Yuval and Eyal.
