Pioneering Israeli Producer Miriam Etzioni Dies at 88
Miriam Etzioni, a trailblazing Israeli entertainment producer, passed away on Saturday at the age of 88. Born in Poland, she immigrated to Israel as part of the Tehran Children aliyah. Etzioni served in the IDF as an arts office coordinator within the Education Corps before founding one of the first production companies in Israel's entertainment industry, marking her as a pioneering woman in the field.
Starting in 1970 with the Yuval Theater, Etzioni produced dozens of stage productions, musicals, and children's shows. She collaborated with prominent Israeli artists such as Hana Laszlo, Oded Koren, Israel Poliakov, Gavri Banai, Izhar Cohen, Dudu Fisher, Nathan Datner, and Chava Alberstein. Her notable productions included "Eleh Hem Banai," "Oshot Shorashim," "Datner on the Roof," "Falling in Love Again," and "Life Is Not Black and White."
Etzioni received multiple lifetime achievement awards from ACUM, the Israeli Producers and Agents Association, and AMI. Most recently, she was honored as a Worthy Citizen of Tel Aviv-Jaffa on Israel's Independence Day. She is survived by her two sons, Yuval and Eyal, from her marriage to Uri, who predeceased her, and five grandchildren. Her funeral is scheduled for Sunday at 15:30 at Yarkon Cemetery.
