Young Man Charged with Sexually Assaulting Two Minors Near His Home in Modi'in Illit

On June 26, 2026, 19-year-old Haim Atis allegedly sexually assaulted two young brothers playing near his home in Modi'in Illit. According to the indictment, Atis noticed the children playing close to his residence around 6:57 p.m., grabbed one boy from behind, and lifted him by the waist. When the child kicked to free himself, Atis released him but immediately seized the second boy, carried him to the basement level of a nearby building, and committed an indecent act.

The minors had arrived earlier that day with their parents and siblings to visit relatives near Atis's home. Following the incident, the prosecution requested that Atis be held in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings, citing his lack of remorse, self-control, and high risk of danger. During interrogation, Atis admitted to the acts but could not explain his behavior, claiming he was dissociated from reality and in a dissociative state at the time.
