The Israeli national football team risks losing one of its most promising talents, 17-year-old midfielder Orrian Goren, who currently plays for Barcelona. The Czech Republic's national team is actively pursuing Goren, and his father, Yarom Goren, has confirmed that the family is in discussions with the Czech Football Association. A significant decision regarding Orrian's international future is expected soon.
Yarom Goren stated in an interview that the family feels honored by the Czech interest and that all options remain open, as Orrian is not yet committed to any senior national team. While he has played for Israel's U-19 and U-21 teams and is likely to receive a senior call-up, he also feels a connection to his Czech roots. The Czech interest has intensified, with Pavel Nedved, a former Czech football star and now technical director for the national teams, confirming contact with Goren and his family. Nedved even offered Goren a direct spot in the senior national team, comparing him to Barcelona's Pedri and highlighting his technical abilities.
Goren, born in Israel in March 2009, has Czech ancestry through his mother, Daphne, whose family emigrated from Czechoslovakia before World War II. This lineage allows him to represent the Czech Republic under FIFA regulations. Concurrently, Goren recently achieved a career milestone when Barcelona coach Hansi Flick included him in the senior squad for a match against Real Madrid, though he did not play.
Despite the Czech overtures, reports suggest Goren's primary preference is to represent Israel. However, his camp is reportedly seeking a genuine professional opportunity, not just a symbolic call-up to prevent him from playing for another nation. Goren has appeared twice for Israel's youth teams, but as long as he remains uncommitted to the senior squad, the option to play for the Czech Republic remains viable. His father emphasized the gravity of the decision, calling it a "fundamental personal and professional decision" they face in the near future.
