Hapoel Be'er Sheva Stuns Maccabi Haifa with Dominant 5-2 Victory

Despite a demanding schedule including three games in a week, extensive travel, and fatigue, Hapoel Be'er Sheva secured a stunning 5-2 victory over league leaders Maccabi Haifa. The win came less than 72 hours after Be'er Sheva suffered a 4-0 loss to Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League and arrived back in Israel. The team was also hampered by the absence of key midfielders Eliel Peretz and Lucas Ventura due to injury.

Be'er Sheva's patient approach was evident in the first half, with commentators noting their deliberate ball movement. Coach Ran Kochav urged his players to maintain this patience in the second half, emphasizing that scoring opportunities would arise. This strategy paid off, as Be'er Sheva's high press and effective ball movement overwhelmed Maccabi Haifa.

The breakthrough came in the 46th minute with a steal by Javon East, followed by a strong shot from Amir Ganach that was saved by Maccabi Haifa's goalkeeper Omri Glazer. Just a minute later, Be'er Sheva took the lead, and by the 56th minute, they were up 3-0. The aggressive pressing made it difficult for Haifa to advance past midfield, leading to repeated turnovers.

The final score of 5-2 was considered a favorable outcome for Maccabi Haifa, who were unable to recover from Be'er Sheva's onslaught. The victory propelled Hapoel Be'er Sheva into the top three of the league standings, just one point behind the leaders, a remarkable achievement given their recent setbacks and injuries. Coach Kochav's belief in his "unbreakable" players was validated by the performance, which saw the team function as a cohesive unit greater than the sum of its parts.
