The agreement was signed by the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Major General (Res.) Amir Yaron, and the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Cypriot Ministry of Defense, Stelios Kontouris.
Under the terms of the deal, facilitated by Israel's Defense Export Agency (SIBAT), Israel will supply a new patrol ship manufactured by Israel Shipyards. This vessel will be equipped with naval warfare systems from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Additionally, the existing patrol ship of the Cypriot Navy, the "IOANNIDES," also previously built by an Israeli company, will undergo an upgrade of its systems.
The signing ceremony took place in Cyprus and was attended by SIBAT Head Brig. Gen. (Res.) Officials stated that the addition of the new ship and the planned upgrade will significantly enhance the Cypriot Navy's patrol, surveillance, search, and rescue capabilities.
This initiative is viewed as another step in deepening the strategic partnership and commitment of both nations to regional security and stability.
