Israel and Cyprus have signed a significant defense export agreement under which Israel will supply Cyprus with a new, advanced naval patrol vessel (OPV). The deal was finalized at a ceremony in Cyprus between the Israeli Ministry of Defense, represented by its Director General, Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Yaron, and the Cypriot Ministry of Defense, represented by Deputy Permanent Secretary Stelios Kountouris.

Under the agreement, Israel Shipyards will construct the new patrol vessel, which will be equipped with various naval systems from Rafael. Additionally, the existing patrol ship of Cyprus, also built by Israel Shipyards, will undergo system upgrades. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both nations, including Maj. Gen. (res.) Yair Kulas, Head of the Naval Warfare Directorate at the Ministry of Defense, Israeli Ambassador to Cyprus Shuli Davidovich, Israel Shipyards CEO Eitan Zuker, and Ran Tabor, Head of the Naval Warfare Systems Directorate at Rafael.

This agreement is seen as a crucial step in bolstering the operational capabilities of the Cypriot Navy, enhancing its ability to address maritime security challenges. The new patrol ship, along with the upgraded IOANNIDES vessel, will support expanded missions in patrol, surveillance, search, and rescue operations. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability through strengthening their capabilities and deepening their partnership.
