Israeli President to Recommend Bravery Award for Dubai Flight Heroes

President Isaac Herzog announced he will recommend awarding the "President's Medal for Civil Bravery" to four Israelis who displayed exceptional courage during a dramatic incident on a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Israel. The individuals are Yaniv Hayun, Dr. Shota Musayev, Zvika Mans, and Assaf Radwan.

In calls with the four, President Herzog expressed his deep appreciation for their resourcefulness, bravery, and mutual responsibility during extreme danger. He informed them of his intention to bring their heroic story before the advisory committee for the medal and recommend its bestowal upon them. "At moments when the lives of so many people were in danger, you acted without hesitation, with exceptional courage, resourcefulness, and mutual responsibility," Herzog told them. "You risked yourselves to save others and prevented a major disaster. The entire world saw the beautiful and brave face of Israeli society today. I am proud of you and thank you on behalf of the State of Israel."

Dr. Musayev described the terrifying moments, stating, "It was a very difficult case and we were truly saved. It wasn't just my bravery, everyone who was there and approached the cockpit area was part of it. We were all heroes." He added that passengers supported each other on the plane and upon arrival in Saudi Arabia, demonstrating their strength as a people.

Assaf Radwan recalled the unprecedented event, saying, "We felt helpless, hanging in the air, and I didn't know who to turn to. But it was all instinct, to survive, to save the family, the people, and the children."

The "President's Medal for Civil Bravery" was established by President Herzog during the war to honor civilians who acted with extraordinary bravery, risking their lives to save others. It is the highest civilian bravery award and is granted after review by an advisory committee appointed by the President. The medal has previously been awarded to exceptional Israeli heroes, including some who distinguished themselves during the October 7th attacks.
