קבלנים מצרים נכנסו אתמול (יום ב') לשטח במזרח רפיח, בתוך הקו הצהוב, והחלו במדידות הנדסיות לקראת הקמת שכונת "רפיח הירוקה". הכניסה לשטח נעשתה באישור ותיאום של פיקוד הדרום בצה"ל, בליווי כוחות צה"ל ופיקוח אווירי.

פרויקט "רפיח הירוקה", המיועד לעשרות אלפי עזתים, ממומן ומנוהל על ידי איחוד האמירויות. השכונה אמורה לקום בשטח שאינו נשלט על ידי חמאס, ותהיה תחת שליטה של כוח רב-לאומי.

המהלך מקודם על רקע עמדת הדרג המדיני בישראל, לפיה לא יקודמו מהלכי שיקום ברצועת עזה ללא פירוק חמאס מנשקו. הדרג המדיני בישראל אישר את קידום הפרויקט, שצפוי לקום בחודשים הקרובים. האישור לכניסת הקבלנים המצרים ניתן יום לאחר ביקורו של ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו באיחוד האמירויות.
