Israel Plans New City for Gaza Militias Allied with Israeli Security Forces

Israeli security officials recently held discussions to ensure the safety of Palestinian militias operating on Israel's behalf in the Gaza Strip. This comes ahead of a potential next phase in Gaza, which may include an Israeli withdrawal. According to the Peace Council's framework, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would retreat beyond the "yellow line" as Hamas disarms. The militias, operating under Israeli auspices, currently conduct activities such as scanning tunnels, weapons, and terror infrastructure.

It is clear that these militia members cannot return to Gaza in the future. The Israeli security proposal, led by the Shin Bet, suggests resettling these fighters in a new city called "New Rafah," to be constructed by the United Arab Emirates and secured by a multinational force. This city is intended to be free of Hamas influence, and those admitted will undergo Israeli security vetting. The proposal has been presented to Peace Council representatives.

An Israeli official stated that the first residents of New Rafah should be those opposed to Hamas, emphasizing, "This is Israel's interest." This plan aims to provide a secure future for these militias while aligning with Israel's strategic goals in Gaza.
