נשיא המדינה יצחק הרצוג ורעייתו מיכל פתחו את סוכת בית הנשיא בירושלים, כמדי שנה, לאזרחי ישראל. השנה, הסוכה הפתוחה עומדת בסימן "רוח ישראלית - מסע בין תרבות וספורט למחר ישראלי משותף", בשיתוף פעולה עם משרד התרבות והספורט.

לפני פתיחת השערים לקהל הרחב, סיירו הנשיא ורעייתו במתחמים השונים שהוקמו. הרצוג הזמין את הציבור לבוא ולחגוג, והדגיש את חשיבות הסוכה הפתוחה לאחדות העם. "אני רוצה שילדי ישראל שמגיעים לכאן ירגישו מהי התרבות הישראלית וישאבו ממנה כוחות והשראה", אמר הנשיא, והוסיף כי "אין כמו הסוכה הפתוחה שנועדה לאחד את כל עם ישראל".
