בעקבות מידע מודיעיני, צה"ל והשב"כ נערכים לאפשרות שחמאס ינסה לחטוף חייל ברצועת עזה בתקופה הקרובה. כתוצאה מההתרעות, הועלתה רמת הכוננות של שתי האוגדות הפרוסות ברצועה, האוגדה המרחבית ואוגדה 99. מפקדים בכירים הונחו שלא לעזוב את הגזרה ולבצע בדיקות כוננות וערנות בקרב הכוחות. הכוחות פרוסים בתוך הקו הצהוב, ב-40 מוצבים, ובנוסף ב-10 מוצבים מחוץ לגדר המערכת.
