James Tavernier Adapting to Maccabi Tel Aviv, Club Says More to Come

James Tavernier is settling into life in Israel and with Maccabi Tel Aviv, having already appeared in three matches for the club. The highly anticipated signing arrived after a summer without team training, leading to expectations of a gradual integration into the squad. However, coach Keni Valverde, viewing Tavernier as "his player" on the field, opted to start him immediately.

Sources close to the club indicated that Tavernier himself did not anticipate playing so soon. "He's not 100% fit yet, and you can see it in his movements and contribution to the attack. He's still working physically to get back to his best. You have to understand he didn't have a preseason and he's not a kid anymore," they stated. The club added that Valverde wanted him to "get straight into things," but emphasized that this is not Tavernier's full potential. "You haven't seen anything yet," they concluded, suggesting his best performances are yet to come.

Beyond his on-field contributions, Tavernier is described as a very positive presence in the locker room. Despite his impressive career, he has reportedly shown no signs of a large ego, with club sources calling him "very humble" and "easy to be around." He is noted for actively guiding the defense during games and assisting teammate Osher Davida with defensive play. He is characterized as an approachable person, making him a welcome presence.

Maccabi Tel Aviv is scheduled to resume training tomorrow after a short break, though players involved with national teams will be absent.
