האומות המאוחדות אישרה ברוב קולות, ביום חמישי בערב, כי נשיא הרשות הפלסטינית, מחמוד עבאס (אבו מאזן), יוכל לשאת דברים בוועידת מנהיגי העולם שתתקיים בשבוע הבא באמצעות שיחת וידאו. ההחלטה התקבלה בעקבות סירובה של ארצות הברית להעניק לו אשרת כניסה לצורך הגעתו לניו יורק.

ההצעה אושרה ברוב של 152 מדינות תומכות, מול 3 מתנגדות ו-4 מדינות שנמנעו. ההחלטה מאפשרת לנשיא הפלסטיני להשתתף בפסגה למרות המגבלה שהציבה ארצות הברית.
